Electrolytes

Article by Elaina Wang

A common topic of discussion in the Keto world, especially among newbies, is whether or not you can (or should) get your electrolytes from athletic beverages like Vitamin Water Zero or Powerade Zero.

Short answer: no, on all counts.

The problem with these drinks is that they are almost universally cheap in quality, highly processed, and filled with non-compliant ingredients and chemicals (like insulin-spiking acesulfame potassium, for example) . They also have very little in the way of electrolyte salts, so they're a very poor substitute for actually salting your food, taking your magnesium, and eating potassium-rich foods. There is really next to no benefit to your body. Don't fall into the trap of justifying a sweet taste addiction by telling yourself the electrolytes make up for it. They don't.

When we go keto, most of us get the message about eliminating junk food fairly quickly. The same principle applies to drinks! Let's keep our focus on real, whole, healthy food and drinks. Supplement in a way that will truly benefit your body, not with crappy drinks that spike your insulin and keep you addicted to sweets.

I gifted myself coaching with Elaina. I love it! It helps hold me accountable and she steers me in the right direction. Very much needed on my journey.

I really like the coaching program, I like the daily contact as it keeps me accountable and keeps me motivated. My coach is Linda and she will answer any question I throw at her, she will also give me suggestions to tweak my progress. I strongly recommend it to get you started or to get you back on track it is well worth it.

I want to stick to the keto woe. My coach is my sounding board when I have questions, concerns, trouble or just support. It's different from familial support because she's been there & knows what you're going through. I always spend on everyone else but never on myself. Well this is my "gift to self."

Group coaching helps you not feel alone in your keto journey. I started out with one on one coaching and it was extremely beneficial, but I feel like I am learning even more from group coaching. It's great to hear the things others are going through and help provide support while learning how to navigate a situation like that in the future, and of course to have others there to celebrate in your successes! I plan to utilize the coaching services until I reach my goals. I don't think I would be moving in such a positive direction without coaching.

I started with coach Lisa nine months ago — long enough go grow and birth a baby! And with the work we did on roots of my eating issues I feel I really have had a rebirth of sorts. I no longer binge, no longer think about food 24/7 (yes, I even dreamed of food), no longer run to food for comfort, love, distraction or as a sedative or tranquilizer. She worked with me through three exceptionally hard events in my life and I stayed Keto strong through it all. I could not have done it without my coach.
